Prickly Pear Cooperative

The Prickly Pear Coop serves schools in Lewis & Clark, Broadwater, Meagher and Jefferson Counties. We serve 14 school districts ranging in size from 3 students to East Helena with 1100 students. Total combined enrollment is approximately 4,000 students.

Prickly Pear provides special education services and support to these school districts. Because the districts are too small to warrant full time specialists, they have pooled their Federal Part B money to form the coop, which is responsible to hire and support specialists in speech therapy, school psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, a part time behavior specialist, and part time resource teacher. The coop also has a director, secretary and clerk.

Cooperative staff collaborates with school staff to provide the special education services to children in the schools. Our goal is to insure that every child with special needs is supported through an individual education plan.

Prickly Pear currently employs 6 speech therapists, 4 full time psychologists, a full time occupational therapist and part time certified occupational therapist assistant, a half time physical therapist, part time resource teacher and half time behavior support specialist. Any job openings are listed on the OPI web site and this website.
