WHAT IS SPECIAL EDUCATION?
 
Special Education is a specifically designed individual plan of instruction developed from an extensive evaluation and in consultation with the parents/guardians, the student’s teacher and appropriate special education staff, to meet the specific needs of a disabled child. Instructional programs, interventions and consultations are tailored to meet each students needs in order to provide a successful school experience. These services are provided at not cost to the parent or guardian.
 
WHAT IS THE GREAT DIVIDE EDUCATION SERVICES?
 
The Great Divide Education Services is a full service Special Education Cooperative as provided by State Statute. The Great Divide Education Services is funded through local, state and federal sources to provide itinerant instruction and related services to students identified as disabled and live within the member school districts.
 
Specifically, school districts who are members of Great Divide Education Services may receive the services form one of our School Psychologists, Speech/Language Pathologists, Resource Teachers, Para-professionals or the Cooperative Director.
Services include:
  • Child Find/Pre-school screenings
  • Psychological, academic and speech/language evaluations of students suspected of being disabled.
  • Direct Services from Resource Teachers and Speech/Language Pathologists
  • Referrals for related services such as Occupational or Physical Therapy
  • Consultation to administrators, teachers and parents
  • Identify and facilitate additional services from private providers
 
Cooperatives can also assist member districts to provide any and all educational services allowed by law. Districts may opt to contract through the Cooperative for services such as counseling, gifted and talented, curriculum planning, etc. The management of the services and employees would be assumed by the Great Divide Education Services
 
Payment for the service would be prorated according to the level of service taking place in the participating districts.

ADMINISTRATION
 
Great Divide Education Services conforms to all applicable federal and state laws: rules and regulations. Great Divide Education Services has a full-time Director who manages and supervises the Cooperative’s employees and services. A full-time Clerk provides assistance in budget and financial matters. The governing body of the Cooperative is the Executive Council, consisting of elected representatives (Board Members or their designee) from member school districts that make up the entire Management Board. The Executive Council formulates policies for the Cooperative and generally oversees its operation.
